This is a nice ride up into the hills to the popular tourist destination of Monchique.
Monchique is about 550m (1700 feet) above sea level. About 8km away is the highest point of the Algarve, Fóia.
The summit of Foia is 902 metres above sea level. Scheduled buses do not go there. Taxis are available at Monchique.

Route 94 Portimão <> Monchique and connections to Alferce and Marmalete

The information has been obtained from printed timetables and other local sources (like taking the bus) and is given in good faith.
Bus service until further notice. There are some strange discrepancies between the official printed timetable (used here) and the information
available on the website search. In particular, the bus from Portimão at 1415 on the printed timetable is shown on line as leaving at 1402! Beware.
The late buses on summer weekends run 1 hour later, therefore a gap of more than five hours between buses in the afteroon / evening.

Portimão to Monchique fare is about €5 each way, paid cash on board. NO contactless!
The Portimão bus stop is in Avenida Guanaré, about 1 mile (1.6km) from the cruise ship dock, mostly along the riverbank.
Minibuses usually meet the cruise ships if that's too far to walk.
