This is a nice ride up into the hills to the
popular tourist destination of Monchique.
Monchique is about 550m (1700 feet) above sea level. About 8km
away is the highest point of the Algarve, Fóia.
The summit of Foia is 902 metres above sea level. Scheduled buses
do not go there. Taxis are available at Monchique.
The information has been obtained from printed timetables and other local sources (like taking the bus) and is given in good faith.
Portimão to Monchique fare is €5,40 each way, paid
cash on board. NO contactless!
The Portimão bus stop is in Avenida Guanaré, about 1 mile
(1.6km) from the cruise ship dock, mostly along the riverbank.
Minibuses usually meet the cruise ships if that's too far to walk.
